When you first come home with your new bundle of joy you are feeling just a little anxious to say the least. The last thing that you need is baby sleep problems. Because, when your new arrival cannot rest then guess who else cannot rest? That is right, you! And when you cannot rest then you become cranky and over tired in which does not go down well with the rest of the family.
So, what we need to do is get to the root of the problem of why your precious little bundle is having this trouble. Firstly, is he or she wet and or hungry. These are usually the first signs of restlessness. Of course you must also find out if he or she is too cold or too hot. Once these things are found not to be the problem then we need to look elsewhere. Is it because it is too noisy of perhaps too quiet? Yes, sometimes babes like to have some noise especially if it is soothing music.
Sometimes we are the problem or more so that we have caused the problem. For instance, sometimes our babes have become used to being rocked to sleep in our arms and therefore when they stir they realize that they are now not in mums arms but all alone in a cradle or crib. This is not too pleasant for them and they will start to cry until they are once again safe in your arms being rocked. Now I am not saying that this is a bad thing because I myself had done the same thing but I am just trying to come up with some reasons why sleeping patterns are broken.
Being rocked to sleep or using a dummy or pacifier when going to bed is an association factor just like to some adults having a drink before bed or reading before bed is. What you need to do if this is the case with your child is to bring into the game some other association with bed. Something that does not need you, like a toy, blanket, special pillow or music.
Then as the child gets older and you know that he or she is not in pain, hungry or uncomfortable in anyway, you should be able to put him or her to bed with their association aids and you will soon find it amazing how the problem has been alleviated.
Of course it is not always this easy to alleviate baby sleep problems straight away. You must be sure that there is no medical problem first off and that you are always consistent with the way you tackle this problem. Even babies can be very formidable opponents when it comes to getting what they want.
